We utilize the latest in laser engraving technology to exceed the BATFE requirements for engraving a firearm, receiver or parts. The ATF requires that all Form 1 SBR (short barreled rifles), SBS (short barreled shotguns) or suppressors be engraved with the manufacturer's or makers name (you or legal entity), city and state.
Maker: “John Public” – This is the name that you indicated and supplied in box 4h of the ATF Form-1 (ATF 5320.1) paperwork. You started with a Title 1 Firearm (ex. commercially purchased stripped lower that has serial number) and “MADE” a Title 2 with it.
Location: "Anywhere Town, PA" – This is the city and state where the NFA firearm was made. – This is the city and state that was supplied in box 4h of the ATF Form-1 (ATF 5320.1) paperwork
Engraving Requirements and depths required per the ATF National Firearms Act: For firearms manufactured, or made, the engraving, casting, or stamping (impressing) of the serial number must be to a minimum depth of .003 inch and in a print size no smaller than 1/16 inch; Type Face must be of a style easily readable.
The maker's markings MUST be on a surface readily visible without disassembly of the firearm.
Metal Receivers have several choice places to be marked but most AR Makers have chosen the area along the trigger or on the side of the receiver.
If You Are the Original Manufacturer (You manufactured it from scratch and not an existing firearm):
If you are manufacturing the NFA firearm/item yourself (e.g. a silencer or 80% lower) then you will need to create a serial number for the NFA firearm.
The requirements taken from the ATF National Firearms Act Handbook state that, “If the weapon is of new manufacture, the applicant must assign a unique serial number and enter it in Block 4(g). For example, a unique serial number could be composed of at least 4 digits preceded by the initials of the maker. NOTE: alpha characters, e.g., a name, will not be accepted as a serial number. If a name is to be used, there must be at least one numeric character in addition to the alpha characters.” Below is the information that will need to be engraved on the NFA firearm that you are manufacturing.
